Photorefractive Keratectomy (commonly known as “PRK”) is another treatment option we offer at Joffe Custom LASIK. PRK is a laser vision correction procedure similar to All-Laser LASIK, with the only difference being the way in which we create the corneal flap.
In Step 1 of the laser vision correction procedure, we create a corneal flap. After creating this flap, we can then treat the cornea using an excimer laser, which gently reshapes the eye and allows for improved vision.
- When we perform All-Laser LASIK, we create the corneal flap (Step 1) using a femtosecond laser.
- With PRK, there is not a flap created, the surface of the eye is treated directly by the excimer laser.
After this step, within either treatment, we treat the eye with the excimer laser. After treatment there are slightly different recovery plans, which is something you will discuss with your medical team.
