Custom Laser Eye Surgery Procedures
Custom LASIK, also known as laser eye surgery or LASIK eye surgery, is a painless treatment that reshapes the cornea, correcting common eye conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. At Joffe MediCenters, we only offer Custom LASIK options, as opposed to “Traditional LASIK”.
Custom LASIK provides a more detailed treatment plan that accommodates and corrects for high-order aberrations, or imperfections, that exist on the cornea. We feel the benefits of Custom LASIK (versus “Traditional LASIK”) are undeniable and why that’s the only treatment type we offer.
Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) Similar to LASIK, Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is a procedure that utilizes an excimer laser to re-shape the cornea to provide natural, clear vision. The main difference between LASIK and PRK is the way that the corneal flap is created (the first step in the LASIK process).
While LASIK uses an ultra-precise instrument (microkeratome) or femtosecond laser to create the flap, in PRK the flap is created with assistance from medical ointments. PRK is performed on patients where LASIK is not an option due to medical parameters, which is determined during your free LASIK exam.
What is All-Laser LASIK Surgery?
At Joffe Custom LASIK, we are committed to providing safe and effective technology to every patient. Additionally, we want to educate our patients about LASIK, the process and our technology so they feel comfortable in taking the next step with Custom LASIK.
Custom LASIK involves two steps:
- ) Creating the corneal flap
- ) Gently reshaping the cornea to correct vision.
All-Laser LASIK refers to a customized treatment plan that utilizes the femtosecond laser for the first step (creating the flap), and an excimer laser for the second step (reshaping the cornea). In this process, both steps are administered through 100% blade-free laser technology, hence All-Laser LASIK.
During your free LASIK exam, our team of experienced medical professionals will evaluate your vision and determine if All-Laser LASIK is right for you. If it is, they will further explain the process in detail as well as provide a specific price estimate for your treatment.
Joffe Custom LASIK is very proud to offer All-Laser LASIK utilizing the Ziemer Femto LDV femtosecond laser and one of our proven excimer laser systems. During your free LASIK exam our team of experienced medical professionals will evaluate your vision and determine if All-Laser LASIK is right for you. If it is, they will further explain the process in detail as well as provide a specific price estimate for your treatment. Call us if you have any questions about All-Laser LASIK, its benefits and how you could be seeing 20/20 tomorrow through Custom LASIK.
What is All-Laser PRK Surgery?
Another treatment option we offer at Joffe Custom LASIK is Photorefractive Keratectomy (commonly known as “PRK”). PRK is a laser vision correction procedure similar to All-Laser LASIK, with the only difference being the way in which we create the corneal flap. In Step 1 of the laser vision correction procedure, we create a corneal flap. After creating this flap, we can then treat the cornea using an excimer laser, which gently reshapes the eye and allows for improved vision.
- ) When we perform All-Laser LASIK, we create the corneal flap (Step 1) using a femtosecond laser.
- ) With PRK, there is not a flap created, the surface of the eye is treated directly by the excimer laser.
After this step, within either treatment, we treat the eye with the excimer laser. After treatment there are slightly different recovery plans, which is something you will discuss with your medical team.
