Dr. Manuel Chaknis

A native of Atlanta with a large, extended family from the area, Dr. Chaknis has enjoyed a stellar academic career, starting with his undergraduate education at the prestigious University of Chicago. He continued his academic studies with a Masters degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta prior to earning his medical degree in Augusta at the Medical College of Georgia. Following an internship at the renowned Bassett Hospital, which is affiliated with Columbia University in New York, Dr. Chaknis returned to Augusta, Georgia to complete his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Georgia. Given his passion for, and commitment to, corneal surgery, Dr. Chaknis went on to successfully earn a position as a fellow in Refractive Surgery at the Corneal Consultants of Indiana in Indianapolis, Indiana. Through these deep, diverse experiences, Dr. Chaknis has been able to work with some of the most experienced and renowned ophthalmologists in the country. As a result, it is little wonder that Dr. Chaknis has been an instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual meetings on numerous occasions, and has had several articles published in some of the nation’s leading medical journals.
Having performed over 20,000 laser vision correction procedures since 1996, Dr. Chaknis is certainly among the more experienced refractive surgeons in the United States. Among the thousands of patients who have entrusted their eyes to Dr. Chaknis are fellow doctors, athletes, military personnel, lawyers, media personalities, and members of Dr. Chaknis’s own family. A strong advocate for the wonders of LASIK, Dr. Chaknis is proud to say that he, too, has been freed from the hassle of glasses and contacts. Personally enjoying the benefits of laser vision correction since 1996, Dr. Chaknis was literally one of the first American ophthalmologists ever to do the procedure and have it done himself!
Dr. Chaknis is proudly board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Chaknis’s professional affiliations have enabled him to stay at the leading edge of surgical innovation and technology.
Dr. Chaknis was raised in Atlanta, and has been proud to call Georgia home for the vast majority of his personal life and professional career. Dr. Chaknis is a proud father of four, and is a committed member of his community. Not a day goes by when Dr. Chaknis is not thankful for the wonders of now being free from the hassle of glasses and contacts. When not helping his patients improve their lives with better vision, Dr. Chaknis’s hobbies include reading and spending time with his family. Among the passions shared by the Chaknis family are avidly following college and Australian rules football, and Greek food.
