Presbyopia is an eye condition where your vision will exhibit a progressively diminished ability to focus on near objects (e.g. a restaurant menu, cell phone). This is caused by a loss of elasticity of the crystalline lens, which is an internal part of your eye. Like gray hair or wrinkles, presbyopia is a caused by the natural course of aging and cannot be avoided. The first signs of presbyopia – eyestrain, difficulty seeing in dim light, problems focusing on small objects and/or fine print – are usually first noticed between the ages of 40 and 50.
Most people counteract the effects of presbyopia by utilizing reading glasses (commonly known as “readers” or “cheaters”). However, Joffe MediCenter offers a LASIK technique that corrects for the effects of presbyopia, called Joffe Blended Vision.
Blended Vision is a process of correcting both your distance and near vision without glasses. Your experienced Joffe LASIK specialists will correct one eye for distance and one for near vision. After treatment, your brain will naturally adjust to the new vision – or blend it – for about 3 to 6 weeks. After all adjusting has taken place, most people in their 40’s and 50’s do very well with Joffe Blended Vision.
The best way to find out if Joffe Blended Vision is for you is to schedule your free LASIK exam. At your exam, our experienced team will fully inform you on the details of Blended Vision and also simulate your future vision using ophthalmic instruments. At Joffe, we want to make you comfortable with all aspects of the procedure so you can move forward without reservation.
