EDUCATION 

Dr. Whiting began his ophthalmology career in 1978 while an undergraduate at Stanford University.  Following graduate work at the Stanford University Medical Center Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Whiting graduated with Honors from medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.  He went on to complete his internship at the University of Minnesota’s Hennepin County Medical Center and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

EXPERIENCE 

In 1989, Dr. Whiting started ophthalmic surgery practice in Minneapolis.  He began refractive surgery in 1994.  He has held staff appointments at the University of Minnesota Medical School Department of Ophthalmology and Family Practice, and clinical appointments at numerous hospitals in Minnesota.  Dr. Whiting served two years as the Medical Director of the Allina Medical Clinic, Eye Services Division before entering into full-time refractive surgery practice.

Dr. Whiting is nationally recognized for his expertise in procedures for reducing and eliminating patient dependency on glasses and contact lenses.  Having performed over 75,000 procedures at the time of entering into partnership with Joffe MediCenter in 2007, Dr. Whiting has earned the distinction of being one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons in the world.  He has coauthored an informational book on LASIK and continues to be passionate about the field of refractive surgery.

ASSOCIATIONS 

Dr. Whiting is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

PERSONAL

Dr. Whiting and his family and have lived in the Minneapolis area for over 20 years.  Aside from Dr. Whiting’s dedication to the field of refractive surgery he actively supports his local community and volunteers his surgical skills to medical mission projects in several developing countries.  Dr. Whiting is passionate about Minnesota, especially the summer lake activities.  He is also an avid pianist and photographer.
